Eucharist
Holy Eucharist is the sacrament of the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. Catholics believe the Eucharist, or Communion, is both a sacrifice and a meal. Christ is most profoundly and real present under the appearance of bread and wine in the Church which gathers to hear the Word of God, celebrate Jesus’ sacrifice and share the nourishment he offers.
Preparation for First Eucharist/First Holy Communion
• Learn that the Eucharist recalls what Christ did at the Last Supper when He took bread
• and wine and gave them to his disciples as His Body and Blood
• Learn that at Mass we partake in the Eucharist, the Body and Blood of Christ
• Understand that through Holy Eucharist Catholics remember the past, celebrate the present,
• and place their hope in the future. At Mass, the family of God listens to stories of salvation
• history, shares the Good News of Jesus, and places their faith and trust in Him
• Understand that Eucharist is a lifelong and ongoing sacrament, a sign of unity and community.
• In Eucharist, the faithful are nourished and strengthened. They are transformed into a more
• loving and united community of believers sent to live as disciples of Christ.
