Sacrament of Baptism
Baptism is the first sacrament which welcomes us into the Church. To be baptized means to be born anew, to share in Christ’s life. Through Baptism, we become children of God, are freed from sin, and are called to follow Jesus Christ.
Infant Baptism
To begin the preparation please call the parish office at 760-729-2866 to make an appointment with one of our deacons.
After the initial meeting with a deacon parents and godparents need to attend baptism classes which are held two evenings each month. One of the primary goals of the classes is to encourage parents on their journey with their child. Parents will understand that within their family life their child will have their first experiences and impressions of God and how to follow Jesus Christ in our world today.
A Baptism date will be confirmed after the parents/godparents have completed their classes. Godparents may attend baptism classes in their home parishes.
Baptism of Children 7 years and older
Children will be prepared in religious education classes. The program with weekly classes begins
in September and ends in May. The preparation process usually takes two years and the children will receive
the Sacrament of Baptism together with the Sacrament of Holy Eucharist and Confirmation at Easter.
The parents/guardians sponsor their children in this process and are expected to attend family catechesis classes.
For more information, please contact Margit Dornisch at 760-729-8442.
Adult Baptism
Adults seeking to become catholic are prepared in classes called the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults).
The process usually takes from September to May with weekly evening classes. The adults will receive the Sacrament
of Baptism together with the Sacrament of Holy Eucharist and Confirmation at Easter. For more information, please
contact Deacon Jayce McClellan at 760-729-2869 or by
email.
